Sumalee won 40 super bouncy balls playing horseshoes at her school's game night.
Later, she gave two to each of her friends. She then gave one to her mother, one to her father, and two to her sister. She only has 8 remaining. How many friends does she have? Use three sentences to explain how you got your answer.

Sumalee has 14 friends. I know this because 40-1-1-2 is 36-8 is 28/2 is 14. She had 36 balls left after giving her family some minus her 8 is 28 which is how much she gave to her friends she gave 2 each so 28/2 is 14.

Summalee has 14 friends. I found this out because 40-2-1-1 is 36 and then 36-8 is 28 and 28/2 is 14. The 36 she had after her family got some and then the 8 she had left over only left 28 and she gave 2 to each of her friends so divide 28 by 2 and you get 14

She gave one each to her mom and dad, then she gave 2 to her sister, so she would have 36 left over,and at the end she has 8 left, so she would have gave 28 balls out to her friends, and each friend got 2 each so she has 14 friends.

ReplyDeleteThe answer is 14 friends. I got this by subtracting 12 from 40 and I got 28. Then 28 divided by 2 equals 14. So Sumalee has 14 friends.
Susan has 14 friends. I got my answer b first, adding up the number of balls she gave her family, which is 4. I then added 8 and 4, then subtracted that from 40.
