Grading Period 1, Weeks 1 Due 9/8)

What is your goal for your math class?  What grade do you hope to achieve?  What is something that you need to do to achieve your goals?




Grading Period 1, Week 2 (Due 9/15)

A sixth-grade class sells Yankees pennants and American Flags.  They earn $1 profit for each pennant sold and $6 for each flag sold.  They sell items at a total of $92. 

 1) How many flags did they sell if they sold 20 pennants?  

2) Create a different scenario of the amount of each item they could sell to equal $92.00  An example would be 1 flag and 86 pennants. 

Grading Period 1 Week 3 (Due 9/22)

The Booster Club hired a hip hop group for a fund-raiser.  The club guaranteed the group a fee of $1500 plus $4.50 for each ticket sold.  There are 1,132 seats in the auditorium.  What is the greatest possible amount of money the band can earn for a performance?  The least amount?

Grading Period 1 Week 4 (Due 9/29)

This is a two part question

If you buy 5 candy bars and a bag of $4.00 gummy worms, the variable expression 5c + 4 represents the total cost of the purchase.

1) If your bill came to $21.00 how much did each candy bar cost?

Suppose the next day you went back to the store and bought 3 DVDs and a video game for $30.  2) Write a variable expression to represent this purchase

Grading Period 1, Week 5 (Due 10/6)

Mark Texiera of the New York Yankees makes 23,125,000 per year.  In 2012 Texiera at 451 at bats.  Alex Rodriguez makes $30,000,000 per year.  In 2012 Rodriguez had 463 at bats.  How much money did each player make per at bat?

Grading Period 1, Week 6 (Due 10/13)

Ben was a salesman at a car dealership where he made $10 per hour and $50 for every sale he made.  David worked at the same job and got paid $20 per hour.  If Ben worked 10 hours and sold 2 cars in a week, how many hours would David have to work to make more money than Ben?


Would you rather have a contract like Ben's or like David's?  Why?

Grading Period 1, Week 7 (Due 10/20)

The middle school is going to have a walk-a-thon.  Justice and Joseph are arguing who made more money per lap. Justice raises $333 for walking 11 laps.  Joseph raises $400 for walking 8 laps.  How much did each person raise per lap?  Who was right?

GP 1 Week 8 (Due 10/27)

Yam, Bam, Uam, Iam, and Gam are aliens on a space ship.

a) Yam is younger than Uam.
b) Yam is not the youngest in the group.
c) Only one alien is older than Gam.
d) Gam is younger than Bam.
