In the old days there were elevator operators to transport passengers. Don Downs always started his day in the basement. He went up 20 floors to take his boss some coffee. Then he went down 8 floors to take a Danish to his friend. He went up 7 floors to check things out. This was the halfway point in the building. How many floors are in this building?

Use at least three sentences to describe a concept or word that you learned in your math class this week. You also may use the three sentences to describe something you do not understand.
Period 2 Mrs England There are 38 floors in the building.I got this by 20-3=12 then 12+7=19 then 19x2=38.
ReplyDeleteBasement up 20
ReplyDeleteThin down 20 -8 = 12th floor
thin up 12 +7 = 19th floor 1 half way
There are 38 floors to the building where Don Browns work.

ReplyDeleteHe went up 20 floors, then back down 8
20-8=12th floor
Then he went up 7
12+7=19 19×2=38
England period 1
ReplyDeleteHe went up 20 floors.
so 20-8=12 that's the 12th floor.
Then he went up 7 more floors so 12+7=19.
19x2=38
There were 38 floors to the building Don B. worked in
he went up 20 floors
ReplyDeleteso you would do 20-8=12 so that mean its ow the 12th floor
then he went up 7 more floors 12+7=19
19x2=38
there was 38 flooors in the building don b/. worked in

ReplyDelete20-8+7=19
19*2=38
There are 38 floors in the building.

ReplyDeleteSo Don's in the basement and travels to the 20th floor.
Then goes down 8 floors and back up 7, right?
20-8+7=19
The 19th floor is the Halfway point in the building.
19*2=38. There is a total of 38 floors in Don Down's building.

ReplyDeletethere are 35 floors and how i know this is if you add 20 and 8 it will be 28 and then add the 7 and it will give you 35 so 35 floors in total
ReplyDeletethere are 38 floors. this is because..
ReplyDelete20-8+12
12+7=19
if 19 is the halfway point you would multiply it by two to get your answer 19*2=38 floors
There is 38 floor because 20-8=12 the 12+7=19 so 19*2= 38 floors that's how I got my answer.

ReplyDeleteA concept i learned this week is absolute value. Absolute value is how many steps away from zero a number is. And example is |7x|=28 you would separate it into two different problems 7x=28 and 7x=-28 then divide by seven on both sides in both problems which gives you x=4 and x=-4.
He went up 20 floors then back down 8.
ReplyDelete20-8=12
Then went up 7.
12+7=19
Halfway point is 19.
So, 19*2=38
There are 38 floors in the building because since he first went up 20 floors, then went down 8 floors, (20-8=12) and then went up 7 floors (12+7=19) you would double the 19 because that was the halfway point. (19x2=38) There are 38 floors in the building.

ReplyDeleteTHERE ARE 38 FLOORS IN THE BUILDING BECAUSE HE HAD FIRST WENT UP 20 FLOORS THEN WENT DOWN 8 FLOORS 20-8=12 AND THEN WENT UP 7 MORE FLOORS 12+7=19 YOU WOULD DOUBLE THE 19 BECAYSE THAT WAS THE HALFWAY POINT IN THE FLOORS 19x2= 38 SO THERE ARE 38 FLOORS IN THE BUILING.

ReplyDeleteIf Don went up 20 floors to hand his boss some coffee, we must know there are more than 20 floors. Don went down 8 floors to give his friend a Danish, which is 20-8. 20-8 is 12, so he was on the 12th floor when he handed his friend a Danish, and he went back up 7 floors to check things out, which is 12+7. 12+7 is 19, and the 19th floor is the halfway point through the whole building. If 19 is the halfway point, then there must be 38 floors, since 19*2 is 38.

There are 38 floors in the building. This is because don first went up 20 floors then goes wn 8. Then you goes up 7 so 20-8+7=19 then do 19*2=38because the 19th floor is the halfway point.

ReplyDeleteThere are 38 floors in the building because Don went up 20 floors, then went down 8 floors, then went up 7 floors 20-8+7 =19 after that 19x2 that equal 38 There are 38 floors in the building where Don work at.
So Don's in the basement and travels to the 20th floor.so you would do 20-8+7=19
ReplyDelete19*2=38

ReplyDeleteSomething we learned this week was exponents and exponential functions. Exponents is how many times a number, called a base can be multiplied by itself. Exponential functions is a function whose value is a constant raised to the power of the argument.
y = 5–x is an example of exponential functions.
There are 38 floors in the building. I found my answer by doing 20-8=12. Then i did 12+7=19. Finally 19x2=38 which is the the answer to our question.

ReplyDeleteEngland 7- There are 38 floors where Don lives. To find this you do 20-8=12. Then you do 12+7=19. Finally you do 19x2 since this is half of the whole value.
