Joe's Taxi Service charges $1.50 for the first mile and $.90 for each additional mile. How far could Mr. West go if he had $20 and was going to give the driver a $2 tip?

Use at least three sentences to describe a concept or word that you learned in your math class this week. You also may use the three sentences to describe something you do not understand.
this week i learned about Equations and Angles we had to measure of all the missing angles.
ReplyDeleteMr West could go 4.5 miles and I know by dividing 20 and 90 which gives you 4.5.
ReplyDeletei learned about Equations and Angles this week
ReplyDeleteHe can go 19.3 miles.Because 20 - 2 = 18 and that is for the tip. The first mile was 1.50 so 18- 1.50 =16.50.Then you divide 16.50/.90= 18.33 remainder,so you add the first mile by the 18.33 miles and get 19.33 miles. This mean 20 dollars can get you 19.33 miles.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned this week was how to measure missing angles.
ReplyDeleteThis week I learned how to find a vertex in a quadratic equation. I learned how to find the axis of symmetry. I learned how to find the maximum or minimum value of a function.
ReplyDeletehe can go 19.8 miles because 20-1.50=18.5-2=16.5 .Then you divide 0.90 by 16.5 and get 18.3.Finally you add the 1.50 and get 19.8 miles.
ReplyDeleteMr.West could go 19.3r miles, because if you do 20-2 (exclude the tip) then do 18-1.50= 16.5 divide that by .90 and you will get 18.3r then you will have to add 1 extra mile because of the 1.50 first mile.
ReplyDeleteMr. West would go 19.3 miles. If you subtract 2 from 20 and then 1.50 from 18 you get 16.5. You divide is by.90 and get 18.3.Then you add the 1 extra mile.
ReplyDeleteMr. West can go 18 miles with $20 and want to add a $2 tip. Combine the $1.50 and $2 together and it'll be $3.50, subtract that from $20 and it'll leave you with $16.50. Dividing $16.50 by 0.90 will leave us with 18.3, rounding that to the nearest ones will leave us with 18 miles. 18(0.9) + 3.50 = $19.70

ReplyDeleteWell we first need to make an equation that represents the problem. The equation is 20 = .90x + 1.50 +2. Then solve and we need to start with the like terms. making this problem into
16.5 = .90x. Divide 16.5 by .90 to get the answer which is 18 and a third.

ReplyDeleteMr. West could go 18 miles with a $20 bill and still give a $2 tip. If you add $1.50 and $2 you get $3.50 and then you have to subtract that from $20 and you'll have $16.50. Then when you divide that by $0.90 you'll get 18.3. If you round that you get 18 miles and he would've paid $19.70.
Mr. West could just go 18 miles with $20 if you just add a $2 tip. Combine both, $1.50 and $2 together, and your answer will be $3.50. Subtract the previous answer ($3.50) from $20 and it will leave you with $16.50. Dividing $16.50 by 0.90 will leave us with 18.3, rounding that to the nearest ones will leave us with 18 miles and a third (18.3).

ReplyDeleteWhat I learned this week was about Functions. A function s a relation between a set of inputs and a set of permissible outputs with the property that each input is related to exactly one output. We also learned about Horizontal and Vertical lines.
ReplyDeleteThis week I learned about quadratic functions. I now know how to find the vertex and axis of symmetry. Once I graphed the equations, it was pretty simple.

ReplyDeletei think he can go 18 miles with a $2 tip. $1.50 + $2 is $3.50. $20 - $3.50 is $16.50. if $16.50/$0.90 is 18.3, then its about 18 miles.

ReplyDeleteMr.West could go 18 miles with $20 and a $2 tip. I know this because if you add $1.50 and $2 you will then get $3.50. Then you subtract $3.50 from $20 and get $16.50. You then have to divide $16.50 by $.90 and get $18.3. Rounded to the nearest ones you will get $18. You then end up with $19.70.

DeleteMr. West would be able to travel 18 miles with $20 and still give the driver a $2 tip. I know this because if you combine $1.50 and $2 together, you would get $3.50. You would then have to subtract $3.50 from $20, which would get you to $16.50. You would then divide $16.50 by $0.90 and you would get 18.30 and rounding that to the nearest whole number, you get 18 miles. This would give you $19.70 in total.
ReplyDeleteHe would br able to go 18 miles. I know this beacuse 20-2 is 18 then 18-1.5 is 16.5 that devided by 0.90 is equal to aproxxamatley 18. Therefore he could go aproxxamatley 18 miles.

ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned in math class this weak is Relations and Functions . I learned that a domain is the set of all possible x-values. And a Range is all y-values.
ReplyDeleteHe can go 19.33 miles because 20-2-1.5=16.50. You take 16.50 and divide it by .90 which is 18.33 then you add your 1 more mile because you paid 1.50 for the first mile.
