In the old days there were elevator operators to transport passengers. Don Downs always started his day in the basement. He went up 20 floors to take his boss some coffee. Then he went down 8 floors to take a Danish to his friend. He went up 7 floors to check things out. This was the halfway point in the building. How many floors are in this building?

ReplyDeleteThere are 38 floors in the building. I know this because the halfway point is 19. If you do 19 times 2 you get 38. Therefore the answer is 38 floors.
If he starts at 0 and goes up 20, he is at floor 20. Then if he goes down 8, then he is at floor 12. After he goes up the 7 floors, he is then at floor 19. So if floor 19 is half the building, then all you have to do is multiply 19 by 2 to get an answer of 38. There are 38 floors.
