GP 2 Week 8 (Due 12/21)
Jessica is trying to convince her coach that she is shooting better from the free throw line than last year. Last year she made 40 out of 50 free throws. This year Jessica has made 74 out of 100 free throws. Is Jessica right that she is actually shooting better from the free throw line this year? Explain

ReplyDeleteJessica is wrong. I know this because if 40 over 50 get put into a percentage it would be 80% and if 74 over 100 get put into a percentage it would be 74%. 80% is more than 74% that's why she is wrong.

ReplyDeleteJessica is wrong. She is not shoting better than last year. I got this by putting 40 over 50 into a percentage and got 80%. If 74 over 100 get put into a percentage then it's going to be 74%. The 80% is bigger than 74%. So that means she is wrong.

ReplyDeleteJessica is not getting better at her free throws because she had 40 out of 50 last year, meaning she had 80%. This year she has 74% which is 6% worse than last year. Jessica would have to have 80% or more to be getting better.

ReplyDeleteJessica is wrong that she is shooting better from the free throw line this year. I know this because is you do 50 minus 40 that is 10. Then you do 100 minus 74 and get 26. That means that Jessica only missed 10 free throws last year and missed 26 free throws this year.

No, Jessica is not right. If we turn the numbers into percentages then 40 of 50 is 80% and 74 of 100 is 74%. Jessica did better last year than this year.
